Do you struggle with values in your paintings? It’s probably a fear of the dark. This one-day class will help you overcome your fear of working with darks and blacks. You will learn to mix a chromatic black based on your personal palette that will be unique to each painting and how and why it works. We will also introduce how to darken all your colors without quite going all the way to black. And you will learn how to use various tubed blacks and how they differ from each other. No need for special materials. This class can help you in whatever liquid medium you use such as: oils, gouache, and watercolor. Bring a palette with a large mixing area, a half dozen brushes, a palette knife and your favorite painting surface and paint. Bring your yellows, blues, reds, greens, umbers, ochres, blacks and whites. Also bring a pencil and a sketchbook that will accept your preferred medium. If working in a water medium, also bring a spray bottle. The instructor will bring additional tools that will help you.
